Assumptions:
- Membership is limited to 145, subject to change by the board.
- Prospective members are considered once a year. New applications must be received by April 1 and will be acted on before May 15th.
- A membership committee will be established consisting of a chairperson and as many as four additional members.
Process:
- Application:
- The application form for membership will be available online from the home page of the web site (www.waquoitbayyachtclub.com) in fillable pdf format.
- Sponsorship:
A prospective member is required to have two sponsors for membership in the Waquoit Bay Yacht Club. These members must be WBYC Senior Member (3+ years of membership, in good standing) who will agree to sponsor the individual or family. The sponsors (family, single, life member) may only sponsor one prospective candidate for membership per year. The sponsor may not be a member, or be related to a member of the membership committee. The sponsor may not be in the same immediate family as the candidate.
The completed application, applicant introduction letter, and two sponsor letters should be sent by mail or e-mail to the chairperson, post marked or e-mailed no later than April 1.
Each applicant will be requested to meet with the Membership Committee for a brief informal interview at the club. The purpose of the interview is to get to know the applicants and to tell them about the club and show them around the club house and facilities, and to answer any question they may have about the club.
- Following the interviews, the Membership Committee will schedule a meeting with the board where the recommended applicants will be presented to the Board. The Board will decide by majority vote whether to accept or reject each applicant.
- By May 15th, the chairperson will notify applicants who have been accepted and send them the invoice for the required initiation and membership fees, due June 1st to the WBYC treasurer. By May 15th, the chairperson will notify those applicants who have not been accepted.
- The WBYC Commodore will send a welcoming letter to the new member(s) along with an invitation to the next club event and/or work party, social or work event with the new member(s) to facilitate their introduction to the membership.
- The two sponsors for the new member(s) will be asked to attend the next social or work event with the new member(s) to facilitate their introduction to the membership.
